How Is It Recalled? collects and presents official recall information, how our guides are written, and how advertising is kept separate.

Is It Recalled? exists to make official UK recall information easy to find and easy to act on. This page explains where our information comes from, how we write it, and how we keep advertising separate from it.

Where recall information comes from

Every recall on the site comes from an official notice: the Office for Product Safety and Standards, the Food Standards Agency, Food Standards Scotland, the DVSA, the MHRA, the Veterinary Medicines Directorate, or a retailer’s own published recall notice. We check these sources every 15 minutes. Each recall page links to the original notice, and if our summary ever differs from it, the official notice is right.

How recall pages are written

We turn each notice into a clear summary: what is affected, what the problem is and what to do. Recall pages are produced automatically from the official data, then grouped by type, brand, shop, hazard and allergen so they are easier to browse. We do not change the facts of a notice, add risk levels that are not in it, or guess at batch codes.

How guides are written

Our guides are written and checked by Chris Pollitt. They explain consumer rights, how different types of recall work and how to stay safe, using information from official UK sources. Each guide shows the date it was last checked, and we review them when laws or official guidance change. They are general information, not legal or medical advice.

Corrections

If something on the site is wrong or out of date, please tell us. We fix errors in our own content as soon as we can. If the error is in an official notice, we will point you to the organisation that published it.

Advertising and independence

The site is free to use and is paid for by adverts served by Google and a small number of clearly labelled affiliate links. Advertisers have no say over which recalls we publish or what our guides say. We never accept payment to remove or play down a recall.
