What’s wrong

A potential chafing condition has been identified between the alternator power cables and P-clamp. If chaffing occurs it may result in a short circuit. This could lead to initially some flickering of certain Malfunction Indicator Lamps on the instrument display. If the concern is not corrected it is possible for a fire to occur.

The fix

Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and replace the current P-clamp with a more robust clamp and secured with additional rubber protection in two locations. If serious cable chafing is identified (insulation worn through) the cable should be replaced.
