What’s wrong

As part of our ongoing quality monitoring we have found that the weld seams on the front-axle fender carrier of Econic 956 vehicles may have been incorrectly executed. The affected front-axle fender is supported and positioned by a carrier that is firmly connected to the vehicle frame. Due to an employee error at the supplier the affected weld seams were incorrectly executed. Based on the hydropulse tests performed and taking into account the specific vehicle application “refuse collection” cracks are expected to develop in one of the three weld seams no earlier than after two years. As it cannot be ensured that the driver will notice the potential warning signs (vibrations of the fender carrier or fender or unusual noise) complete detachment of the fender cannot be ruled out. This may increase the risk of accident for following traffic.

The fix

As part of the planned recall campaign we intend to replace the rear fender holders on the front axle of the potentially affected vehicles.
